Those bold enough to explore may share our belief that sexier social scenes have much to offer, yet leaves much to be desired. Group experiences in seductive spaces are generally about fast flesh. Even those with the highest of membership fees or that boast beautiful environmental aesthetics ultimately place consumerism over connection, leaving some feeling that they paid a luxurious price tag for an empty experience. The played out sexual scripts of male domination and women engaging in performative sexual acts have become acknowledged by the founders of DEF as exploitative, tired and imbalanced. Despite many of these events being touted as “ladies choice” or “female controlled,” we have observed gender inequalities and economic power imbalances remaining consistently prevalent.
V and her friend R recounted experiences and shared disappointments that there was no truly safe, equalizing, intimate environment in which they could celebrate with likeminded friends without pressure to pretend they wanted what other women performed.
Their friend, Y, was significantly more conservative and had never ventured into such gatherings, yet he longed for a place to experience himself as flirtatious, fun, and free, without having to worry about potentially unwanted situations. For him, it was important to have an environment in which he could express his sensuality without worrying that anyone’s boundaries may be crossed, feelings hurt, or safety compromised.
Y loved upscale dining, whiskey, wine, and had a penchant for sultry interior design. Creatrix V had, herself, sat under many a Michelin star and was also enthusiastic about the chic and seductive. She had a propensity to collect friends happy to join her in her many adventures. Dark feminine R was always up for a party, mischief, and an excuse to dress up. All agreed that the world could benefit from more authentic intimacy and delicious food. They were a lovely trio who successfully birthed Diner En Feu in 2022.
